I never saw myself as a leader. As a new teacher, I was focused on lesson plans, classroom management, and helping students succeed. Leadership was not something I actively pursued or even considered for my future. However, my first principal saw something in me that I hadn’t yet recognized—potential.
One day, he pulled me aside and said, “You have a natural ability to connect with others, inspire confidence, and bring out the best in those around you. Have you ever thought about leadership?” I laughed it off, but he continued to encourage me, giving me opportunities to take on responsibilities beyond my classroom. Whether it was leading a professional development session, mentoring new teachers, or organizing school-wide initiatives, he nurtured my confidence and showed me that leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about serving others.
Through his guidance, I realized that leadership is not about power or position but about influence, humility, and passion. He instilled in me the belief that great leaders lift others up and help them see their own potential. Because of him, I stepped into leadership roles with confidence, not because I sought them out, but because I understood the value of using my influence to make a difference.
